Family holidays: What to do in Cantabria with kids

Sometimes families wonder where to travel with little kids, as we search for a comfortable and beautiful destination with lots of activities to do. If you are searching for something like that for your next vacations, it’s your lucky day!l Because Cantabria is the perfect destination for travelling with kids of all ages. This region offers hundreds of experiences which will stay with you long after you leave. In this post we tell you some of them. What to do in Cantabria with kids

1. Visiting El Soplao Cave (and the Ferrería de Cades too)

Visiting El Soplao Cave is a very fun experience for kids as its access is provided by a little train which will make them feel adventurous explorers for a day. Near El Soplao there is the Ferrería de Cades, a less-known but super interesting museum situated in an old water mill forge. Adults would love to discover the history of the forge and its impact in the area while children would be impressed when watching the old machinery in motion.

2. Doing a rural route or a local arts&crafts workshop

The kids would love to do this Rural Route in Serdio, the village of our eco-apartments. In this route, Olaya pick you up in her mare car, take you through the surroundings of the village and finish it showing you different farm animals for the kids to interact with. Another perfect activity for families is the  rural experience Stonecutter for a day. In this experience, Susana will show you the beautiful village of Tudanca through a simple walk, and afterwards you could enjoy a workshop from Vicente, one of the best stonecutters in the area. 

3. Visiting the Castle of the King, in San Vicente de la Barquera

A great plan for time travelers is to walk through the old walls and old town of  San Vicente de la Barquera and finishing it in the Castle of the King. Every member of the family would enjoy the wonderful views and the explanatory video about the history of the castle and the village, apart from the building itself. Because who doesn’t like a castle to play medieval times?

4. Walking in the nature

The Senda Fluvial del Nansa, is a nice walk to do with children. We talked about it in here as it is just 3km away from our eco-apartments. The great thing about this hike is that, apart from being breathtaking, it is very adaptable to every level, as you can come back whenever you or your kids feel tired.  Moreover, at the starting point you could enjoy a children playground and an outdoor space with picnic spot. A perfect place for the children to make friends!

5. Discovering Cantabria from the water

You can know Cantabria from the water canoeing the Deva River or learning surf or SUP in Merón beach. All the family would enjoy doing sports together while you know the precious natural landscapes of Cantabria. And remember, you have a 10% of disccount in both activities just for being a The Cantabrian client!

6. Visiting Cudaña Farm

Visiting Cudaña Farm is a safe hit among the little ones. Situated in Labarces, 8 km away from our eco-apartments. In the farm, the children could visiting the facilities to understand how a milk farm works, feeding the little cows or enjoying its open air playground.
