Rural experience: Stonecutter for a day
If Cantabria could be defined by natural materials, the most important one would be stone. The traditional Cantabrian homes that protect from the burning sun during the summer, the walls escorting the rural tracks, the caves in which the ancient Cantabrians drew their lifes or the Picos de Europa Mountains. Everything in this corner of northern Spain is made of stone. And this rural experience is here to honor it.
STONECUTTER FOR A DAY
We offer you a slow introduction into one of the ancient Cantabrian jobs: stonecutter. Vicente, a talented artisan who works with stone, will show you the tecniques of stonecutting in his workshop of Nansa Valley. There, you could use your own hands to create a unique piece which you could take with you back home. A rural experience which will be hard to forget.
LIVING THE NANSA VALLEY
This rural experience is held in Tudanca, a little village in the mountains which is one of the most specials places of Cantabria. Away from mass turism and almost untouched, Tudanca is a magnificient example of rural arquitecture from barroque.
Finally, the experience would not be complete withouth an easy hiking route through the natural and cultural landscapes of Nansa Valley. During the route, you will enjoy the social exchange with local population and you will benefit from the knowledge of Susana, who will guide you through this ecotourism paradise. WHO ORGANISES IT?
NansaNatural is Susana Pacheco, teacher and geographer passionate about trekking and nature, who one day in 2016 decided to turn her passion into a profession. After travelling the world, Susana starts NansaNatural, a project based in sustainable tourism in one of the most hidden rural areas of Cantabria.
“This project is my bet for rural areas, sustainable development and commitment with the local population. I want to show this connection with the territory and share my values regarding ecology, heritage and culture with the travelers who come to Cantabria”.
